When I was a little girl, a tourist came to visit us in Moshi and was promptly invited by my father to our home. I don’t remember much about him, but I do remember him telling my sister and I that we should repeat this statement to ourselves every day and that it would help us in our lives. The statement was: “Every day, in every way, I am getting better and better, and stronger and stronger.” And when I would go to Mombasa as a kid, my maternal grandfather would ask me to repeat, “My eyes are as powerful as binoculars.” And I would say these words to make him happy, not quite understanding the significance. I now appreciate that they were teaching us about affirmations.Â
An affirmation is a positive statement that is personal, short and specific and can help you get into the right frame of mind. Over the years, I have been exposed to affirmations in books and in my coaching. Sometimes they have worked for me, other times not so much.
Since my cancer diagnoses, I have finally discovered the value of affirmations. I will share some of my affirmations that help to centre and ground me. I say these affirmations several times day and they have have become an important part of my healing:
“Every cell in my body sings with energy and vitality.”
“My body heals quickly and easily.”
“I accept and embrace my cancer.”
“I am whole. I am complete. I am Munira”
Whatever are your circumstances, there is an affirmation that can support you. It could be that you want to focus on your health, your happiness, your children, your spirituality.
Here are some thought-starters for you courtesy of Google:
“I love and accept myself unconditionally.”
“I can choose my response to any situation.”
“I consciously release the past and live only in the present.”
“I love my children unconditionally and accept them as they are.”
“I accept exercise and healthy eating as a way of life.”
“I am kind, I am loving, I am happy.”
“Each day is a new opportunity.”
“Today is the first day of the rest of my life.”
“I am a divine expression of a loving God.”
Take some time, and think about an affirmation that would work well for you today. It might be just what you need to get your mind and spirit working with you.
